The direction that Texas football recruiting is headed in under Tom Herman is a tremendous sign for the success to come for the Longhorns soon.

It only took one year with Tom Herman at the helm for Texas football recruiting to really take off. That trend should only continue as Herman enters his second full year as the head football coach of the Longhorns. Texas also currently sits with a top 25 recruiting class in the nation for the 2019 cycle.

This is a huge time for the focus on recruiting since coaching staffs have that and fall camp as the main priorities at this point of the off-season. Moreover, according to 247 Sports, the Horns have made 115 offers to prospects for the 2019 recruiting cycle. Texas landed six commits so far in the 2019 class, including highly-touted four-star wide receiver Jordan Whittington as the sixth best at his position in the nation.

Herman helped start a lot of momentum rolling on the recruiting trail for the Horns at the beginning of May, by landing four-star cornerback Kenyatta Watson II and three-star tight end Brayden Liebrock. Texas also hauled in a valuable preferred walk-on for the 2018 class in running back/wide receiver Damond Wiggins.

The Horns have yet to land a five-star prospect in the 2019 class. Texas did have two five-star signees in the 2018 class with the elite safety duo of Caden Sterns and B.J. Foster. Sterns was rated as the top safety in the nation in his class and Foster was third.

Watson II is the best defensive back committed in the 2019 class, but that could change very soon. Texas still needs a big boost by way of a few big prospect commitments for this class in the coming months. A big start to the regular season could help out the cause for the Horns too.

Here’s the five most important remaining targets for the Texas Longhorns’ 2019 recruiting class.
