Texas Football Recruiting: 5 most important targets remaining for 2019 class
The one JUCO target on this list for the Horns is also possibly the most immediate impact player for the program. Four-star defensive end Jermaine Johnson has one more year left with Independence Community College in Independence, KS, before he can take his talents to a big time Power Five school.
Among the list of top five schools for Johnson include the Georgia Bulldogs, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Minnesota Golden Gophers, Oregon Ducks, and Texas. Nebraska and Georgia look to have the best chance at landing Johnson, but Texas is still definitely in the running for him.
Furthermore, once Texas loses current defensive ends in Breckyn Hager and Charles Omenihu due to eligibility following the 2018 campaign, they’ll need someone new to turn to. What better than the No. 4 ranked JUCO prospect in the nation to plug that hole.
Johnson will be ready to go for whatever campus he heads to. Nebraska, Georgia, and Texas are all trending in the right direction on the recruiting trail which makes it tough for the Horns to make a great case to separate from the rest of the competition. However, Johnson brings tremendous size and athleticism that Texas should not lose out on.
