This was one of the moments that should have led to Vince Young winning the Heisman Trophy beyond running back Reggie Bush of the USC Trojans. However, a clutch fourth quarter performance that led to the Horns knocking off Ohio State in Columbus wasn’t enough to sway the voters in the end.

The former standout Texas running back Jamaal Charles also had a big game alongside Young in the backfield. Charles did just what he needed to in the receiving game to get Texas in position on Ohio State’s side of the field on a few different occasions. Yet, Charles didn’t have too much of an impact on the ground, with less than 30 rushing yards here.

Ohio State entered the game as the No. 4 ranked team in the nation, while Texas sat at No. 2. However, this is one of the biggest non-conference early season wins for Texas in program history altogether. It led directly to Texas getting down the path to a title run, in a dominant 2005 regular season.

Neither offense had much luck finding room to pick up yardage, despite a ton of talent on both sides. Ohio State’s eventual Heisman winning quarterback in Troy Smith was shut down most of the way so was Buckeyes’ running back Antonio Pittman.
