In what will end up being a long list of huge out-of-conference battles for the Horns, this will likely go down as one of the very best of all of them. Notre Dame entered this matchup ranked as the No. 10 team in the nation, with College Football Playoff hopes in sight.

A team with a ton of offensive talent showed that off with a huge performance against what was a mostly suspect Texas defense during the 2016 campaign. And, Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer was supposed to be one of the very best at his position in the country that season.

Texas went back and forth with the Fighting Irish, with neither offense being able to pull too far away. The game went into overtime, also going back and forth between Kizer and Tyrone Swoopes with a few scores, before the Horns would get into the end zone to claim the win in the end.

The 2016 campaign didn’t end up too great for Texas. Yet, if nothing else, Charlie Strong did reel in some very impressive wins during some ultimately disappointing seasons in Austin. Notre Dame was a memorable game for Texas fans, though.
