Texas and the Texas A&M Aggies played its final game of a currently paused Lonestar Showdown rivalry back during the 2011 regular season. It was a largely disappointing 2011 campaign for both Texas and Texas A&M that year, with the Horns at least claiming this final bit of bragging rights from the rivalry.

Texas A&M seemingly had the better quarterback situation entering the game, considering Texas had gone between Case McCoy, Garrett Gilbert, and David Ash all year. Meanwhile, the Aggies boasted an eventual first round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft in current Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

McCoy was getting the nod for Texas by the time this matchup rolled around in 2011. He had the best stat line between the three Texas quarterbacks, with both Gilbert and Ash tossing more interceptions than touchdowns during the regular season. McCoy did just enough to help the Horns win by a two point margin by not throwing a single pick.

The Texas defense did a nice job keeping a strong Texas A&M ground game at bay here too. Former Aggies’ running back Ben Malena had a decent outing with nearly 100 total yards and one touchdown. However, the Horns kept the potency of the Texas A&M offense at bay enough to get the win.
