Texas has a big presence in the state of California on the recruiting trail for both football and basketball. Seeing the Horns go into that state and pluck a four-star standout prospect like Max Agbonkpolo wouldn’t be too much of a surprise. Texas is gaining more of his interest than any other Big 12 program right now.

Agbonkpolo has offers from the Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, USC Trojans, Michigan Wolverines etc. He’s being recruited from PAC-12 programs that generally own the territory around his high school. Arizona could emerge as the favorite to land his services ultimately.

However, Texas is an underdog in his recruitment that could emerge down the road. The Horns are definitely a favorite to get his commitment, but the geographical location is working against them. He might value location over the fit with the program or skill lying around him on the court at any given time.

What Agbonkpolo brings to the table that other commits in this class for the Horns might not is his offensive versatility and defensive prowess. His size makes him a physical force on defense that will be hard to deal with for even some of the top offensive players in the Big 12.
