Sometimes raw physical tools and speed are enough for a player to garner a good amount of his own NFL Draft hype. That’s exactly what to-be senior wide receiver John Burt has the chance to do with a potentially big showing during the 2018 campaign. Burt hasn’t reached his ceiling yet with Texas, but he has one last opportunity to do so.

Another issue facing Burt is his steady decline in production over the course of the past three years. He had a solid freshman campaign back in 2015, but has gone downhill since that point. Burt started his college career out with more than 450 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Since then, Burt has managed less than the amount of receiving yards he racked up his freshman year alone, in his sophomore and junior seasons combined. Last season, his yardage fell below 200 yards, and he had just one touchdown. For a wide receiver that is such a known deep threat, his touchdown totals need to be higher.

Get around that three or five touchdown mark this year in a potential bounce back 2018 campaign, and Burt will see a significant rise up draft boards. Burt was a Big 12 Track Champion in hurdles again this year, and is a very athletic multi-sport athlete. His speed is what would ultimately get him to the next level either way.
