Texas Football: 5 best games ever for Colt McCoy with the Longhorns
It’s tough to select just a few games from such an illustrious career like Colt McCoy with Texas football, but there’s a few that do stick out.
Making the case for former Texas football quarterback Colt McCoy as the best at his position in the history of college football is a possibility. Fans of the Longhorns would have a decent argument for at least saying that McCoy is one of the greatest quarterbacks in Big 12 history. He had some truly outstanding performances during his tenure under center in Austin.
We’re talking about a quarterback that rounded out his college career with more than 130 total touchdowns to less than 50 interceptions. He was a four-year starter with the Horns under a legendary head football coach in Mack Brown. McCoy and Brown also were very close to reeling in the second BCS National Championship for the Horns in a half-decade.
However, if not for that injury to McCoy that forced then freshman Garrett Gilbert into the mix against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the BCS National Championship during the 2009 campaign, Texas might’ve won that contest. Yet, that just proves how valuable McCoy was to Texas during his career.
McCoy won some huge games for this program, and goes down as the most recent successful quarterback for the Horns. Texas had a rough time finding the answer under center since McCoy ran out of eligibility following the 2009 campaign. Nearly a full decade later, Texas is hoping that the Austin native quarterback Sam Ehlinger can take this blue blood program back to national relevance.
As it pertains to just the Horns, McCoy is one of the greatest quarterback in program history. And, he came directly after another one of the best quarterbacks, if not the best, in Texas football history in Vince Young.
Here’s a look at the five best games ever for former Texas Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy.
