Considering the entire body of work throughout the history of the Texas football program, which contests look the most favorable this year?

The history of Texas football places most of the other college football programs across the nation at a disadvantage in terms of the record against the Longhorns. However, Texas ran into some issues of late due to the dip in success at the end of the Mack Brown-era and carrying through three tough years with Charlie Strong at the helm.

Even though current Texas head football coach Tom Herman had himself a solid year in 2017, it did only result in seven wins. Texas has an emphasis on the betterment of the results coming out of the 2018 campaign. Herman needs an increased win total to move this program forward.

Texas is always a product of preseason hype, so the results on the field in Week 1 should be a big indication of things to come this fall. The Maryland Terrapins lie in waiting to see what the Horns bring to the table in 2018.

Yet, the Horns also have one of the toughest slates in the Big 12 this season. Facing two teams like the Terps and USC Trojans out of conference makes for a rough road ahead. The Big 12 is also a very deep conference this year with few easy wins for Texas.

This team needs to take its advantages where it can get them. Defeating some of the middling Big 12 squads puts Texas in a position to compete for a slot in the Big 12 Championship Game.

Here’s a look at the five opponents the Texas Longhorns face this season in which it had the most success against in the past.
