Defeating the Iowa State Cyclones at Jack Trice Stadium looked like a bigger and bigger accomplishment as time went along through the 2017 campaign. While Iowa State is historically bad against the Horns, its head football coach Matt Campbell really turned things around in a magical run for the Clones.

Amid a ton of quarterback issues for Iowa State, Campbell was able to get an unknown name like Kyle Kempt on the scene after a weird situation surrounding Jacob Park. Texas was one of the last teams that Park faced last season before leaving the team. And, the Horns nabbed quite a few picks from Park in the process.

Iowa State is going to be a tough out this season. It sits as one of the middle to top tier teams in the Big 12 in 2018. Other quality Big 12 teams like the Kansas State Wildcats, West Virginia Mountaineers, TCU Horned Frogs, and Oklahoma State are all difficult hurdles for Texas.

However, there’s something to Iowa State, and Texas needs to have its best effort at home in this one. The complete body of work for Texas bodes well for its chances against Iowa State this year. And, it was impressive how a Buechele led team took down Iowa State in a challenging place to play like Ames last season.
