Texas Football: 10 best former Longhorns in the NFL
With so much to look forward to for Texas football for the upcoming season, there’s still a lot of player to look back on and be proud of from this program.
For all the success that Texas football has seen over the years, that translates to having a ton of talented players at the next level. Since the 2016 NFL Draft, the amount of alumni from the Longhorns selected dropped drastically. Texas only had one player selected in each NFL Draft for 2016 and 2017. The 2018 NFL Draft potentially started a turnaround in that regard, though.
The main point for Texas to send more players into the actual seven rounds of the NFL Draft is finding more positive results in the win column and on the field. Texas dropped off at the end of the Mack Brown-era in Austin, and on into the three years of Charlie Strong’s coaching tenure.
This all continues on with the 2019 NFL Draft in which the Horns could have anywhere between five and 10 players selected. There’s a tremendous crop of prospects coming out for that draft. However, the focus here is looking back at who panned out the best from Texas in the NFL as of the 2018 off-season.
A good portion of the best players from the Texas football program that are at the top of the NFL now came out from the better days for the Horns. There’s still a lot of talent rolling through campus in Austin, but the drop in success on the field caused some players to fly under the radar at the next level.
More than 20 players from the Horns sit on active NFL rosters, but some definitely standout above the rest.
Here’s a look at the 10 best former Texas Longhorns in the NFL as of 2018.
