Texas Football: 10 best former Longhorns in the NFL
It wasn’t until the 2016 season that we really got to see the potential of Marquise Goodwin shine through with the Buffalo Bills. He really broke through with the San Francisco 49ers last year, in combination with an emerging star quarterback in the former New England Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo.
If not for some injury trouble along the way, Goodwin might have found himself with more than 1,000 receiving yards last year. Goodwin is also among the sleeper wide receivers for the upcoming season. He might end up as one of the best receivers in the entire NFC by the end of the 2018 season.
The surprising thing here is that Goodwin never posted more than 500 receiving yards with the Horns. Even though the passing game started to go downhill in the latter half of Goodwin’s college career with Texas, he still should’ve produced at a higher rate than he did given his recent success in the NFL.
The one thing we did learn about Goodwin during his senior year with the Horns was his elusiveness and agility with the ball in his hands. That is something that clearly translated to the NFL now. The 49ers gave him four carries last season for 44 yards. Mainly, he racked up more than 950 receiving yards on 56 catches last season.
