Adrian Phillips. 13. Safety. College Career: 2010-2013. 6. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

You can see the host of quality defensive backs that the Horns sent to the NFL in the past decade. Another one of those names to be known is the Los Angeles Chargers’ safety Adrian Phillips. He had a big year in 2017, and that earned him a one-year contract that he signed back in March.

Last season, Phillips hauled in two interceptions and deflected five passes. Both of those stats were good for career highs. He also set a career high in tackles with 47. Similar to Quandre Diggs, Phillips is trending up as one of the most underrated defensive backs in the NFL. And, that could continue on into the 2018 campaign.

As an undrafted free agent following the 2014 NFL Draft, Phillips made the best of his time with the Chargers. He keeps earning his way onto the roster, highlighted by his battle during the 2015 season. Phillips had to work his way up from the practice squad to finally garner some regular playing time last season.

Phillips is well on his way to becoming a potential All-Pro candidate later on in his professional career. For now, he is an awesome story for any current Texas football player as to why you should work hard to prove your value at the next level. Undrafted free agents this year like cornerback Holton Hill and defensive tackle Poona Ford should take a page out of Phillips’ book.
