Similar to what Locke III brings for Texas on the defensive side of the ball, rising senior wide receiver Jerrod Heard is significant to the offense as a leader. Heard was used all over the field for Texas over the past three seasons. He made the switch from quarterback to wide receiver following the 2015 campaign.

Yet, some injuries during the 2016 season to Texas quarterbacks put him in the position to take some snaps under center all the way up until last year. Now, Heard is one of the more elusive, experienced, and athletic wide receivers that the Horns have on the roster entering 2018.

The versatility that Heard has in his repertoire are also extremely valuable for Texas. He might not light up the stat sheet with the likes of Collin Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphrey from the wide receiver spot, but the coaching staff can trust him in almost any situation.

Heard will always be huge to help along the development of younger wide receivers like Brennan Eagles and Joshua Moore. Any incoming freshman for the Horns that is looking to develop early and make an impact in the early years of their career should pay attention to Heard.
