1. Gary Johnson

Possibly the most potent linebacker for the Horns this season to really breakout is the former JUCO transfer Gary Johnson. So much is reliant on the shoulders of Johnson this year that he does need a big season either way. There’s not many other linebackers that can match his level of athleticism.

The pure physical tools and speed that Johnson brings to the table makes him so valuable to this team. In just 10 games played last year, Johnson chased down 57 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and two sacks. Given the bigger role he’ll have this year and one more year of development, he should be an All-Big 12 selection when it’s all said and done.

Johnson is a player that should be garnering some NFL Draft hype next year. He’s got the ability to excel at the next level, if not the size. He’s one of the more important players for the Horns on this side of the ball in 2018.

2. Ayodele Adeoye

One of the top recruits for the 2018 cycle for the Horns is also one of the guys that could start immediately during his freshman year. Four-star outside linebacker Ayodele Adeoye was also the only linebacker that enrolled early during the spring semester.

If nothing else, Adeoye will end up with some key playing time in games where Texas needs some new faces in the mix or where they’re winning by a good amount. For the 2018 recruiting cycle, Adeoye was rated as the sixth best inside linebacker in the nation so he’ll definitely get his chance early on in his career.
