Texas Football: Projected 2-deep depth chart for 2018
Left Tackle
1. Calvin Anderson
The Rice Owls sent a very valuable grad transfer the way of the Horns over the off-season in left tackle Calvin Anderson. If Anderson can fill the void left by oft-injured former All-American Connor Williams in 2018, then the Texas offensive line will be much better off.
Anderson had more than 30 starts throughout his time with Rice. He brings that much needed experienced to the Horns, who had some struggles consistently protecting the quarterback last season. If Anderson can also be that anchor for the offensive line, this group will definitely see a boost.
While Williams was the best lineman on this team last year, he wasn’t healthy much. Even when he was healthy throughout the 2017 campaign, he wasn’t as effective as he was in year’s past. Anderson was much healthier last year and should be able to stay healthy this season by all past indications.
2. Denzel Okafor
If the grad transfer of Anderson does not work out this fall, not all is lost. Denzel Okafor got some of the starts last year at left tackle, and he could do the same in 2018. However, it is ideal to let Okafor develop one more year under Anderson and get some competition from all the incoming lineman from the 2018 recruiting class.
This rising junior is in a spot to get some playing time no matter what. Okafor could fill in at right tackle if the injury bug kicks in there. He’s a versatile lineman that just didn’t show that he was of the starting caliber for Texas last season. Okafor was still young last year though, as just a sophomore.
