2. Chance at double-digit wins in Tom Herman’s second year

With the Big 12 race looking more wide open than it’s been in a few years, this is really a great time for Texas to take advantage of the circumstances. Herman has the Horns trending up entering the 2018 campaign, and that could lead to a team that might challenge for a double-digit win season in the Big 12.

Outside of the Sooners, the Big 12 doesn’t really have any teams that will be significant favorites over the Horns. Barring the Horned Frogs, no other team has either has Texas’ number enough or have so much talent that the Horns won’t compete in 2018.

Herman took a roster full of Charlie Strong recruits that had underachieved for the past three years and turned it into an intriguing group that won a bowl game over a quality Mizzou Tigers team. That’s a lot to turnaround in such a bright spotlight like the one in Austin.

For the first time in almost a decade, Texas could nearly reach the point of national contention. A double-digit win campaign in 2018 would lead to some serious College Football Playoff hype for 2019. It could also mean a top 15 finish for the Horns this fall. We’ll see how things play out with one of the hot coaching names in the Big 12 at this moment.
