10. Entertaining non-conference slate

Texas has the toughest non-conference slate of any team in the Big 12 for the 2018 season. There’s no doubt that if the Horns go undefeated through that slate outside of conference play, it will be a top 25 team entering the Big 12 opener against the TCU Horned Frogs.

The 2018 campaign kicks off in Week 1 against Maryland on the road. Last season, Texas fell short against the Terps at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. This time around, the Horns have the difficult task of taking down what should be an improved Maryland squad in College Park.

Texas does get a break in between its two biggest non-conference matchups with a Week 2 contest set against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Last year, the Oklahoma State Cowboys got to take advantage of a down Tulsa team and it looks like the Horns get that opportunity this fall.

To round things out this year before the Big 12 opener, Texas gets the USC Trojans at home. A USC team without quarterback Sam Darnold under center should be a very intriguing game. Texas very nearly defeated a top 10 Trojans team on the road last season, and should be able to take care of business at home this year.
