Years with Texas: 2016-17. Pick Analysis. Jarrett Allen. 5. player. 147. Scouting Report. Center

The most recent lottery pick coming from the Texas basketball program was standout center Jarrett Allen to the Brooklyn Nets in the 2017 NBA Draft. During his rookie campaign, Allen vastly exceeded expectations for the Nets. This was not a very good team that Allen ended up on.

Brooklyn has a lot of cap space to build into the future, and that will directly benefit Allen. Yet, it’s nice to see Allen coming through in a big way through his rookie season to establish a true building block for his team. He was also easily the biggest snub on the two NBA All-Rookie Teams.

With the stat line that Allen posted, he should’ve been guaranteed a spot on at least the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Last season, he averaged 8.2 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks. That stat line should only get better in his second season in the NBA.

Allen panned out exactly how Texas fans should’ve wanted him to. All the big time centers and power forwards that the Horns have sent to the NBA in the past decade is highlighted by the fact that Allen isn’t even top three on this list. Expect him to rack up at least 10.0 points per game and seven rebounds in 2018-19.
