Texas Football: Ranking the 5 best running backs since 2000
Hopefully one day, we’ll see Foreman pan out similar to how these next two running backs did, at least for a short while each way. The first of the best pair of running backs for Texas football since the turn of the century starts with a player that will go down as a Kansas City Chiefs legend in current NFL free agent Jamaal Charles.
Similar to what Foreman did his junior year, Charles’ real breakout season came in the final year of his college career. The Horns were fortunate to get the type of production that Charles put out on the field in 2007. He posted nearly 2,000 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.
Interestingly enough, Charles didn’t even rack up as many rushing yards in a single season as Foreman. But, he’s better in pretty much every other major career stat category for a running back. He nearly doubled the amount of rushing touchdowns that Foreman had with Texas. And, he had a knack for finding the end zone despite his smaller frame.
Charles is still going strong and currently looking for a team to possibly suit up with for one more NFL season. He’s had a long and illustrious NFL career that is still not over yet. We shouldn’t soon forget his consistent body of work that he left with the Horns for three years in the mid-2000s.
