Texas Football: Ranking the 5 best running backs since 2000
Charles was by far the better NFL running back between him and former Cincinnati Bengals star Cedric Benson. Yet, Benson’s stats and overall results on the field proved to be much better than that of Charles comparatively. It’s just tough to match what Benson was able to do here.
But, if you want to talk about monster levels of consistency through the course of a four year career, look no further than the stat line of Benson. There was not a single season in which he rushed for less than 1,050 yards, including during his freshman campaign. Things just got better from then on out.
Benson got a huge workload in his final year with more than 325 carries for 1,834 yards and 19 touchdowns. He actually set his career high in rushing touchdowns during his junior season in 2003. His career high was 21 rushing touchdowns which was set in 2015.

The only way to notch 64 rushing touchdowns in the big 12 now is to get started big time as a freshman. The only name that comes to mind in that regard is Oklahoma State Cowboys’ running back Justice Hill. Yet, Benson had the size and strength to standout in his own right. He’s not only the best Texas running back since 2000, he’s one of the absolute best looking all the way back throughout college football history.
