This is going to be the quarterback that appears worst on this list just by first glance at his stat line. James Street will never be known for his athleticism or passing ability. In his career with Texas, he managed just 10 touchdown passes to 24 interceptions.

And, that margin of touchdowns to turnovers wasn’t made up with rushing touchdowns either. It was the clutch time ability of Street under legendary Texas head football coach Darrell K. Royal that will keep him forever remembered with this fan base. Street led the Horns to the 1969 National Championship in a classic win over the No. 2 ranked rival Arkansas Razorbacks.

Something fans should also remember Street for was his comeback victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to keep Texas at a perfect record in 1969 in the final game of the season. Yet, he only had three touchdown passes that entire season.

Texas would wind up winning another national title in 1970, one year after Street’s departure from the Forty Acres. But, his “it factor” might be more noticeable than any other quarterback Texas has ever seen. This is a pure example of how a quarterback’s will to win powered the Horns to one of the best years the program has ever seen.
