Former Horns and Chicago Bears defensive back Nathan Vasher had more of an impact on his team in more than just pass defense. He was a huge impact player in the return game over his four year college career with Texas. Vasher returned two punts for touchdowns for the Horns.

Meanwhile, Vasher was even more impactful in defending the pass for Texas between his sophomore and senior seasons. Vasher actually owns the record for career interceptions for Texas. He nabbed 17 interceptions in just three years of holding a big role in the Texas secondary.

In terms of a player’s stat line for his college career, nothing gets much better than Vasher as a cornerback. He also holds the Texas record for pass breakups. Playmakers didn’t get much better than Vasher, and he still didn’t get the respect his play commanded.

In the 2004 NFL Draft, Vasher was selected by the Bears in the fourth round. His size concerned some NFL scouts, but he still had a decent career at the next level. His total body of work with Texas is worth remembrance well into the future. Vasher was one of the first cornerbacks that helped establish the idea of Texas as “DBU”.
