The activity for Texas football recruiting for the 2020 cycle is starting to pick up with the 2018 regular season just around the corner.

The grind never really stops for Texas football recruiting, or any big program for that matter, to keep a high standard for the talent level present on the roster each and every year. Things really slowed down for head football coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns of late for the 2019 recruiting class. However, one big commitment is already in the pipeline for Texas for the 2020 class.

Four-star Austin, TX, native quarterback Hudson Card looks to already be having a big impact for the 2020 class for the Horns. Even though he is the only commitment for the Horns thus far, more should be coming through within the coming six months.

Landing big time 2020 commits this early can be a volatile aspect of recruiting. Those commits are prone to flipping this early on, but it’s also something that a program like Texas has to keep on top of. Big time programs like Texas also have the resources to hang on to these commits.

So far, Texas has offered more than 40 high school prospects for the 2020 recruiting cycle. The Horns have also offered three prospects for the 2021 class including Parish Episcopal School dual-threat quarterback Preston Stone. Texas has an emphasis on recruiting quarterbacks given the struggle at that position for the past eight years.

Stone is among the group of prospects that are the latest graduates that Texas has offered thus far. The focus should remain heavily on the 2019 and 2020 classes for the Horns on the recruiting trail.

Here’s a look at five 2020 high school prospects that Texas football recruiting should target soon.
