2020

This is the season where any of the upperclassmen for the 2018 roster would now be departed from the program. However, we could also be facing the final year of Ehlinger under center. Or, Texas could have a multitude of other options between then third year quarterbacks Cameron Rising and Casey Thompson or a second year dual-threat in Roschon Johnson.

That might also be a time that Herman gives way to a true freshman starting quarterback eventually in Hudson Card. And, a few other quarterback recruits or transfers could always be on the horizon. But, that will be one of the most telling parts as to where the Texas football program is currently standing.

The 2020 recruiting class hasn’t shaken out well enough to get any sort of gauge as to how the incoming freshmen class could add depth to the roster. But, Texas reeled in a top three class in the nation for the 2018 cycle and currently have a top 10 class for 2019. So, that talent should just be coming to fruition throughout the 2020 campaign, which could make it a special one for the Horns. It also has a similar slate to the 2019 season.

The headlining non-conference battle comes against LSU. Difficult matchups could also be ahead in a reunion with Charlie Strong against the South Florida Bulls. The UTEP Miners are the other non-conference matchup for the Horns in 2020. Since Texas gets LSU on the road in Week 2, we could be looking at a top 10 matchup to start the regular season. But, this could be the best season in more than a decade for Texas.

Realistic record prediction: 12-2 (9-1 Big 12)
