5. Caden Sterns starts at least five games

The focus to start here is on the talented incoming freshmen class for Texas from the 2018 recruiting cycle. The most highly touted of all those incoming freshmen is the five-star safety prospect from Cibolo, TX, Caden Sterns. Coming to campus along with fellow five-star safety B.J. Foster, Sterns will have some competition to face in fall camp.

Two of the projected starting safeties for Texas include Brandon Jones and Chris Brown. Sophomore Josh Thompson could also work his way into a key role this year. Yet, none of those three safeties are quite as talented as either Sterns or Foster.

Jones has the most solidified starting spot after a nice end to the 2017 campaign. He’s there to help make up for the loss of former All-American safety DeShon Elliott and his six interceptions last season. To best fill the void left by Elliott, Sterns and Jones are the best option by the mid-point of the regular season.

Some feel that Sterns has the best chance to help the Texas secondary make up for the 10 interceptions this group loses from the loss of Elliott, Antwuan Davis, and Holton Hill. Sterns is set to be one of the best safeties in the Big 12 for years to come. That can all start with a growing role this fall.
