Texas Football: Early bold predictions for the Longhorns in 2018
1. Longhorns win the 2018 Big 12 Championship Game, but not the regular season title
While the Big 12 doesn’t have as much projected dominance at the top this season, there could be more parity from the teams ranked 1-9 in the standings. Once again, the Oklahoma Sooners were picked to be the title favorite for the 2018 Big 12 Media Preseason Poll. OU got an overwhelming number of first place votes, with 46. The next two programs that got the most were the West Virginia Mountaineers and Kansas State Wildcats with two each.
Texas came in fourth in the Big 12 Media Preseason Poll with just one first place vote. OU, West Virginia, and the TCU Horned Frogs were the three teams coming in ahead of the Horns. Getting placed fourth in the Big 12 preseason standings means a certain level of expectation to at least have a say in the conference title picture.
OU looks to control the pace of the Big 12 throughout the regular season in the second year under head football coach Lincoln Riley. Yet, teams like Texas and TCU shouldn’t be too far behind with such competitive defenses and potent offenses offered from both teams.

A nice situation for Texas fans would put the team in contention throughout the regular season and the bulk of Big 12 play especially. Texas at least gets into the Big 12 Championship Game against either the Sooners, Mountaineers, or Frogs as the second place team. Then, Texas is able to take home the Big 12 Championship for the first time since 2009.
