Contrary to Thompson, four-star pro-style quarterback Cameron Rising has a more mature game that would allow him to be a quality starter for the Horns at some point during the next two years. His case is a bit easier to make than it would be for Thompson at this moment.

Rising has underrated speed that could make him a threat with his legs. It wouldn’t be a staple to his game like it is for Ehlinger or Thompson. We have a clearer picture as to what Rising offers Texas from his high school highlights than Thompson.

Once a commit of the Oklahoma Sooners, Rising was a nice pull for the Horns to add depth to the 2018 quarterback class. Getting his progression started early seems like it would benefit Rising greatly. HIs game already carrying a certain level of maturity and composure means that his development is on a quick track.

Rising is all-around a solid athlete. His strength and speed would let him get away with some freshman mistakes that would naturally come along with starting someone as young as him. He is a better thrower on the run than Ehlinger was during his freshman campaign, or at least we anticipate that to be true.
