Numerous position groups were made a lot deeper for Herman and the Horns by way of this top tier incoming freshmen class for the 2018 campaign. However, the secondary might have gotten the biggest boost in both depth and talent by way of the 2018 recruiting class.

One of those immensely talented defensive backs is a four-star Houston, TX, native cornerback D’shawn Jamison. Although Jamison ranked as a top 15 corner in the nation, he was still looking up at two others at the same position rated higher than him. Since fellow four-star cornerback Anthony Cook enrolled early, he should have a leg up on the rest of the freshman competition.

And, Jalen Greene was a top five rated prospect for the Horns recruiting class overall for 2018. The idea of redshirting either Cook or Greene when the younger talent is needed is tough to imagine from Herman and defensive coordinator Todd Orlando.

Jamison offers a ton of versatility as more than just your prototypical cornerback. He can make an impact on special teams, miss little to no tackles, and provide potentially the best closing speed of any Texas cornerback. The size factor might prevent Jamison from going up against some of the best wide receivers in the Big 12 in 2018. Watch out for him in 2019, though.
