2. USC Trojans

The USC defense will be an early wake up call before Texas faces TCU in Week 4. USC’s defense kept the offense in the game last season on the way to an eventual overtime victory behind the efforts of quarterback Sam Darnold. The Texas quarterback, Sam Ehlinger, couldn’t overcome some late to mistakes to take advantage of his defenses great performance.

Texas will be looking to flip the script on the Trojans this season with another stingy defense and a lot of the same starters on offense ready for this Week 3 matchup. The two teams will meet in primetime, so we should be set for big efforts from both sides.

USC brings back some top NFL talent this season such as this standout trio of seniors that include linebacker Cameron Smith, cornerback Iman Marshall, and safety Marvin Tell. In terms of flat out defensive talent, no one is better on the slate for Texas this season than the Trojans.

However, high scoring games can get the best of USC sometimes with this year likely being no different. Last season, USC could rely on Darnold most games to lead the way for the offense. Yet, it’s going to be a freshman quarterback lining up under center against Texas in Week 3. Texas shouldn’t have to do too much to get past the Trojans if the defense holds up.
