Texas Football: 5 players with something to prove in fall camp
Spring camp and Big 12 Media Days were telling for the current state of Texas football, but fall camp might be the most important even this off-season.
Texas football is just days away from getting back at it with actual practices just before the start of the 2018 regular season. Fall camp for the Longhorns starts on Aug. 3 with a host of decisions left to make for the coaching staff.
Most of this coaching staff for the Horns is entering its second year with the program under head Texas football coach Tom Herman. The only major coach that is in his first year with the program is co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Herb Hand.
Not too much has changed for Texas over the course of the off-season. The program did lose two linebackers to suspension and transfer in Edwin Freeman and Demarco Boyd. However, neither Freeman nor Boyd were expected to win a starting role this season.
Moreover, with 27 new faces on the Forty Acres for fall camp, there’s a lot of valuable reps to go around. Herman also needs to pay close attention to which players will be capable of making an early impact for the team.
As of Aug. 1, Texas is also just one month away from the start of the regular season itself. That Week 1 matchup comes against the Maryland Terrapins at a neutral site in Landover, MD. In essence, that is a home game for the Terps.
The season is getting so close that the Texas football fan base should be getting excited for what is just around the corner.
Here’s a look at the five players for the Texas Longhorns still with something left to prove in fall camp.
