Texas Football: 5 players with something to prove in fall camp
The tight end position is about to be a lot deeper for the Horns this season than it was for the past five years. Senior tight end and Texas Big 12 Media Days representative Andrew Beck will get a lot of looks this year, especially in pass and run blocking. Sophomore Cade Brewer could still learn some from Beck this fall.
However, Brewer should be set to get the bulk of the looks from the tight end spot in the passing game. Brewer got off to a nice start last season with very limited playing time to establish himself as a potential red zone threat. He caught two touchdown passes that came against the Kansas Jayhawks and USC Trojans.
Although, Brewer did not rack up more than 100 receiving yards last season which means there’s still a ton of room to grow after his freshman campaign. Brewer was not set to be the future at tight end for Texas when originally landed at the Forty Acres. However, he now could be the starter for the Horns at tight end for the next two or three seasons.
Along with Beck, Brewer can help develop an incoming freshman four-star tight end in Malcolm Epps that has the raw talent to become a standout at the position. Texas also has a deep talent pool at tight end for the 2019 recruiting class between four-star prospect Brayden Liebrock and three-star Jared Wiley. Brewer has a lot to prove in multiple facets of his progression and character starting in fall camp.
