Texas Football: Game-by-game predictions for the Longhorns in 2018
Texas gets a nice break in between the battles with Maryland and USC. The Tulsa Golden Hurricane come to the Forty Acres in Week 2 looking for a rebound from a down 2017 season. Tulsa is usually one of the more competitive teams in the American Athletic Conference. If Tulsa is back on track this year, it could be a tough one for Texas.
However, Texas faced what looked a be a stingy Group of Five team in the San Jose State Spartans last year at home after losing to Maryland in an absolute thrashing. Texas looked like a completely different team against San Jose State than it did Maryland. Expect a similar result for the Horns against Tulsa this time around.
Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery goes with dual-threat quarterback Chad President to lead the way for his offense. President got some playing time against a tough Big 12 team last season against Oklahoma State. He struggled against Oklahoma State in 2017 and will struggle again against Texas in 2018 with less than 150 total yards.
Texas also forces three turnovers out of the Golden Hurricane. Freshman running back Keaontay Ingram also has his coming out party with 160 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Senior running back Tre Watson gets most of his workload in early while Herman gives way to a standout performance from Ingram. Ehlinger also has a minimal role with two touchdowns and one interception. Texas steamrolls Tulsa in this one.
