Texas Football: Game-by-game predictions for the Longhorns in 2018
The most grueling portion of the schedule comes to a head in Week 4, when facing the TCU Horned Frogs at home. This also kicks off the Big 12 slate against the team that most handily defeated the Horns one year ago. TCU is a usual suspect to put together one of the easier non-conference slates in the Big 12. Except, the Frogs have to face the Ohio State Buckeyes the week before taking on Texas.
With a two win TCU squad coming to Austin to face an undefeated Texas team, this becomes a very intriguing matchup for the entire Big 12 to view. Texas holds the No. 7 ranking in the AP Poll, which is the highest in more than five years. Meanwhile, TCU is still in the top 25, but rings in at No. 23.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Ehlinger and the Horns to become the top ranked team in the conference and get on the path to the Big 12 Championship Game. The game starts off nicely for Texas with a 14-point lead from two early rushing touchdowns.
TCU responds huge with two touchdowns of their own, including a punt return for a touchdown from senior KaVontae Turpin. The quarterback for the Frogs, Shawn Robinson, surprisingly responds well from a down game against the Buckeyes too. He tosses two more touchdowns in the second half to break through the Texas defense. Ehlinger tosses two touchdowns and two interceptions on the day.
The main issue for Texas against the Frogs is not moving the ball, but controlling the clock and stopping its offense. This back and forth affair signals the progress that Texas has made under Herman, but the Horns still fall short to the Frogs in a heartbreaking result.
