A 2018 campaign that has hype building in masses for Texas football could be a letdown when it’s all said and done this fall.

Texas football looks to continue to right the ship for the 2018 season, heading into the second year under the direction of a promising head coach on the Forty Acres. With much hype building around the team ranked at No. 21 in the nation for the 2018 campaign in the initial 2018 Coaches Poll, there could be a downside to this squad for the Longhorns.

The 2018 regular season starts off with two tough tests in three weeks for the Horns, coming against the USC Trojans and Maryland Terrapins. It is nearly an identical schedule for the Horns compared to last season. The only difference is the only non-Power Five matchup for the Horns comes against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane this year when it came against the San Jose State Spartans last year.

It’s a nice break for Texas to get a Group of Five opponent between Maryland and USC. However, Texas knows what it needs to do to have better luck down a similar path schedule-wise to what it had in 2017.

Most of the starters on both sides of the ball are returning from last season for the Horns, but some new faces could make waves too. The experience and talent factors are both there for the Texas defense, and the offense has a few reasons to be hopeful this fall too.

Texas looks to have more consistency throughout fall camp this time around, and establish a culture that breeds success heading into the future.

Here’s a look at five reasons why the Texas Longhorns could struggle in 2018.
