A handful of players are there for Texas football to lean on to take the program to new heights in the Big 12 this season.

Texas football enters year two under the direction of head football coach Tom Herman with the goal in mind of making a run to the Big 12 Championship Game, and continue to right the ship from a decent 2017 campaign. Charlie Strong didn’t do the Longhorns any favors in his three years on the Forty Acres, so Herman got off on the right foot last year.

For this season to be considered a success, the obvious goal is reaching at least the eight-win mark. If nothing else, that would at least be an improvement of what Texas was able to do in the past four seasons. It’s up to the players to be able to execute the schemes that Herman and defensive coordinator Todd Orlando have put in place since they took over following the 2016 season.

Texas usually has a ton of raw talent on the roster, and the pieces to make things happen. However, converting with all that talent is the key. Some of the players that make a ranking like this are the x-factors to helping the Horns reach that next level.

The main factors that went into determining these rankings are the overall talent level of each player, previous body of work, and outlook and role set for the upcoming season.

Texas was given the No. 21 ranking in the nation in the initial Coaches Poll, and we’ll see if the Horns can match the hype levels soon.

Here’s a look at the definitive ranking of the 10 best players rostered for the Texas Longhorns in 2018.
