Chances are that the former Rice Owls offensive tackle Calvin Anderson is one of the best and most reliable linemen for the Horns this fall. Anderson will replace the former All-American left tackle that was often injured last season in Connor Williams, who is now a rookie with the Dallas Cowboys at the next level.

For Anderson to be a staple of the line for the Horns this season, he’ll have to hold the edge nicely for the quarterbacks to get the chance to have a better pocket presence. Whether the starting quarterback is sophomore Sam Ehlinger or junior Shane Buechele this year, it shouldn’t matter in terms of the performance of the offensive line.

Moreover, Anderson is an easy choice to be a leader for this entire offensive line in 2018. He’s got a ton of starting experience with a group that is bringing back a lot of returning starters from the 2017 Texas squad. Center Zach Shackelford, fellow tackle Derek Kerstetter, and left guard Patrick Vahe are just a few returning starters to watch this year on the line.

The ground game will also benefit from improved offensive line play, which was a weaker point of Anderson’s game in the past. However, he does have the experience necessary to know what to do to take a step forward in that part of his skill set in 2018. Anderson has the talent and previous body of work to deserve the top ranking among Texas offensvie lineman this season.
