Texas Football: Ranking the 10 best Longhorns in 2018
Much like Wheeler, senior defensive end Charles Omenihu has a long established career for Texas that goes back all the way to the 2015 campaign. The defensive line is also another spot that has two standout players starting at the same or similar positions, like linebacker. Omenihu also brings with him a nice progression over the past three seasons.
In 2016, Omenihu racked up his first career sack and ended the entire season with three. That progressed into four sacks last year and an impressive seven tackles for loss. Each year Omenihu has gotten progressively better and looks to top it all off with the best of his four-year career on the Forty Acres with a big 2018 campaign.
It was possibly the two forced fumbles for Omenihu last year that was one of the biggest breakthroughs of his career. It was the first time that Omenihu forced multiple turnovers in the same season. Texas needs more difference makers like that on defense with a few key losses that will be difficult to make up for.
The defensive line for the Horns this year should be among the best in the Big 12, if not the best overall. Omenihu’s proven experience and skill makes him a key player in why the Texas defensive line should be so good again this year. He’s also looking to prove that he should be worthy of a look from NFL scouts for the 2019 NFL Draft this season.
