The Texas pass rush will be led by the likes of senior edge rusher Breckyn Hager this season. Much like Omenihu and a host of other senior players on the defensive side of the ball for the Horns, Hager is looking to establish himself as a worthy NFL prospect this fall. Hager will draw some obvious comparisons to that of linebacker Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers at the next level.

However, Hager has to first show that he can put together a full body of work in leading a vaunted front seven for the Horns this year. Hager took a step back in terms of overall production last season, but that was due to the new coaching staff taking over after Charlie Strong departed the Forty Acres.

The best season that Hager put together was in 2016, where he racked up six sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss. That would be huge for the Horns to have a lineman that posted at least seven sacks this year, and Hager could definitely achieve that mark. Both the tackles for loss and sacks are much needed for the Texas front seven.

Texas’ coaching staff showed some new faith in Hager this off-season, by bringing him along as a representative to Big 12 Media last month. He’s also rooming with one of the most well-known senior leaders for the Horns in tight end Andrew Beck. The pieces are coming together nicely for Hager entering the upcoming season.
