Texas Football: 5 reasons the Longhorns could be “back” in 2018
Eventually, the Texas football program will make its way back to the top and it could finally be happening if everything falls into place this season.
The off-season storyline that every college football fan in the nation gets sick of on a yearly basis is whether Texas football will be “back” or not each season. Deciding if the 2018 squad for the Longhorns is worthy of the hype from the initial release of the Coaches Poll is a difficult task.
Last season was a positive step forward for the Horns despite popular belief that a seven-win campaign is not acceptable for a program of this stature. However, the progress has to come in whichever fashion the Horns can get it due to the down period under the direction of Charlie Strong on the Forty Acres.
It won’t be long until we see Texas football back on top of the national stage. Any program with this many resources to find success and this much pressure to contend nationally will find its way back one way or another. Texas is no exception to that rule.
The seasons starts with an opportune non-conference slate that features matchups against the Maryland Terrapins, Tulsa Golden Hurricane, and USC Trojans. The Big 12 slate will be very important with a host of teams that started out in the top 25 of the Coaches Poll (five out of the 10 in the conference).
We’ll have to wait until the start of Week 1 to tell if the Horns are worthy of national contention in 2018, or even down the road in the coming years.
Here’s a look at five reasons why the Texas Longhorns’ football program will be “back” in 2018.
