Texas Football: Why the Clemson series is a good idea for the Longhorns
Texas and Clemson should both continue to recruit at a high level
For the 2019 recruiting cycle, Texas and Clemson both have top 10 classes in the nation at this point just before the start of the 2018 regular season. In the past recruiting cycle for 2018, Texas and Clemson both finished in the top seven composite rankings in the nation. That was the highly touted class that the Horns pulled in the third best group in the nation for 2018.
All signs point to Texas and Clemson continuously recruiting at a high level for the foreseeable future, especially if both Swinney and Tom Herman stay as the head coaches for each program. Texas is used to recruiting at a level like this, even in the three years under the direction of Charlie Strong.
As long as the talent continues to pour into both programs like it is at this moment, we should see both squads stay relevant on the national level. This dip in the success of the Horns on the field will be turned around at some point soon given the progress made under Herman and the vast amount of resources at this program’s disposal.
Moreover, while Texas is known nationally to have one of the biggest and most loyal fan bases, Clemson was not on that level until recently. This Clemson fan base is now known as being one of the best in the ACC, and in the nation too. All these factors of fan loyalty and the talent outlook for each program makes for a very exciting potential matchup around 2030 between Texas and Clemson.
