Possible rare meeting of blue bloods from the ACC and Big 12

The ACC and the Big 12 don’t really have any teams that crossover in geographical relation. The West Virginia Mountaineers are the only Big 12 team that is around the territory that some of the bigger ACC programs command. West Virginia does have a meeting with the NC State Wolfpack out of the ACC this fall, but that is really it between the two conferences.

Among all the big future matchups that Texas has slated, there’s nothing from the ACC in the near future. It’s loaded with competition, and has in the recent past, from the SEC, Big 10, and PAC-12. Even the AAC has more opponents lined up for the Horns from here on out than the ACC does. Texas even faces the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in Week 2.

When the ACC is at its best, big time teams like the Miami Hurricanes, Florida State Seminoles, and Clemson are playing in meaningful non-conference games on a national level. Florida State faced the Alabama Crimson Tide last season before a big downfall that ended the tenure of Jimbo Fisher. This fall, Miami faces the LSU Tigers to open the season.

All of the crossovers for the ACC tends to also be with the Big 10 and the SEC. This could all be changed with a big meeting between the Horns and the Tigers. It could set off a trend that other Big 12 programs like the Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and TCU Horned Frogs could follow.
