Texas Football: What should the final QB depth chart look like?
The final two-deep depth chart for Texas football should be figured out within the next week, with quarterback being a key area to watch.
The announcement of the Week 1 starting quarterback for Texas football was the biggest answer that this program was looking for in fall camp. Now, with sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger getting the nod for at least the season opener, the Longhorns can start to find some rhythm before the start of Week 1. Fall camp is pretty much in the books, and the preparation for the Maryland Terrapins will now begin in practice.
Seeming very confident in the decision from him and his coaching staff, head Texas football coach Tom Herman looks to maximize the ceiling of Ehlinger this year by surrounding him with talented targets and a solid offensive line. Those surrounding factors are something that the last three or four quarterbacks for the Horns did not get on a consistent basis. The offensive line was especially disorganized last season.
With Ehlinger being the Week 1 starter, a good portion of the quarterback depth chart is coming together for the Horns with less than 10 days remaining until the kick off of the regular season. If last season was any indication though, Herman could still start numerous quarterbacks over the course of the season.
Moreover, the rest of the depth chart across the board was set to come together following the last scrimmage of fall camp last weekend. Both sides of the ball look to be set before the final week of practice before Week 1 comes around, despite a host of injuries on defense.
Here’s a look at how the final quarterback depth chart should shake out for the Texas Longhorns before the start of Week 1.
