1. Texas goes undefeated

The Horns were so close on so many occasions last season. Whenever Texas got close to Maryland on the scoreboard last year, the Terps kept pulling away. The game was still a close one when it was all said and done. Meanwhile, Texas was one freshman mistake from Ehlinger away from knocking off USC on the road.

A quick change of fortune, and Texas can end up running through this non-conference slate undefeated. Beyond the unlucky losses to Maryland and USC in 2017, Texas lost a few in-conference games that could’ve easily swung in the other direction. Losses to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oklahoma Sooners, and Texas Tech Red Raiders, could have all been avoided too.

The only loss last season for the Horns that was really out of reach most of the way was against the pesky TCU Horned Frogs. Texas at least gets TCU at home this time around. However, Texas was so close to going undefeated out of the Big 12 last year that it is well within reach to start off the 2018 season.

Next. The Tom Herman headlines are getting ridiculous. dark

USC is the only one of the three out-of-conference opponents for the Horns that is ranked in the initial AP and Coaches polls. The Trojans sit at No. 15. If both Texas and USC are undefeated entering that affair in Week 3, it could be a top 15 or top 10 game under the lights on the Forty Acres. That would also be the last step for the Horns to go undefeated outside of the Big 12.
