5. Daniel Young is not the answer as a starting running back

Of all the Texas running backs that got the chance to prove themselves in the backfield, sophomore Daniel Young was the most underwhelming. He rushed for less than 30 yards on eight carries and no touchdowns. Young looked to be the answer for the Horns for the next two or three years potentially. He didn’t look like that in this loss.

True freshman Keaontay Ingram found his way after a couple of low-yardage carries. Ingram finished the game with 37 rushing yards and one touchdown on less than eight carries. His best carry of the game went for 18 yards. Texas is hoping that Ingram can be the best long-term answer in the backfield.

Senior Tre Watson looked good until he fumbled late in the fourth quarter to give one of the three turnovers that the Horns had in the final seven minutes. Although, the Watson fumble could be argued that he was down and that the refs made a big mistake. It was just another heartrbreaking memory in a terrible set of final minutes for Texas fans.

Even junior running back Kyle Porter had one touchdown on the game and proved that he might be the best pass blocking rusher for the Horns. Porter wasn’t even listed among the top three running backs on the depth chart for Texas and he likely made a bigger impact than Young did.
