In a game that didn’t seem to have too much significance during the preseason for Texas football, Tulsa matters more after the Week 1 defeat.

For Week 2 of the 2018 season, Texas football has to move on from the surprising loss in the season opener to the Maryland Terrapins for the second straight year. The next two non-conference games are too important so that this entire regular season doesn’t fall apart for head Texas football coach Tom Herman.

The thought shouldn’t creep into the minds of the fans of the Longhorns that this team will fall even further until we saw what it can do against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. We don’t know what type of team the Golden Hurricane will be in the American Athletic Conference this fall. All we do know is that Tulsa is coming off a two-win season and is the easiest opponent this year.

Texas has to be ready for what could be a pretty versatile offense from the Golden Hurricane to take the field at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sep. 8. Tulsa had two 100-yard rushers last week against the FCS Central Arkansas Bears and a solid outing from starting quarterback Luke Skipper.

Since Tulsa can still present a decent opponent for Texas considering the circumstances, this is still an interesting game to watch in the second of three non-conference games. It could end up similar to the matchup with the San Jose State Spartans last year.

Here’s a look at the five storylines to watch for the Texas Longhorns in taking on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in Week 2.
