Texas Football vs. Tulsa: 5 Week 2 storylines to watch
2. Freshmen with growing roles
Building off the growing role that Ingram could have in the backfield highlights the instant impact that a lot of true freshmen are having. The dynamic safety duo from two former five-star 2018 signees already came up big in Week 1. Caden Sterns and B.J. Foster should start, or at least get a significant amount of playing time, all season long.
Ingram and Sterns are the best among the freshmen that got a lot of playing time in Week 1. However, we could see some more first-year players emerge in Week 2 in the home opener. Freshman cornerback Anthony Cook is likely to be seen alongside redshirt freshman Kobe Boyce at some point against Tulsa.
At wide receiver, three freshmen should get more playing time in the coming weeks in Brennan Eagles, Josh Moore, and D’shawn Jamison. Eagles and Moore have some progress to make at wide receiver to make a real impact, but Jamison already made his way into a role beyond the offense. Jamison was used on special teams and he had some nice kick returns against Maryland.
This third-best recruiting class in the nation for this past cycle is already having a bigger impact than anticipated. For all the criticism that Herman has taken of late, his recruiting prowess could keep this team afloat. All this freshmen talent gives this program both a bright future and some immediate assistance.
