4. Tulsa’s struggle to find a consistent passing attack

A big reason for the downfall of the Golden Hurricane last season was the faltering of the passing attack. Following the end of the 2016 season, Tulsa lost out on its star quarterback that was the heart and soul of the offense in quarterback Dane Evans. It never was really able to recover in this part of the offense in 2017.

Since the departure of Evans, Tulsa has split time between two quarterbacks in Chad President and Luke Skipper. In Week 1, Skipper got the reps for the Golden Hurricane. Skipper is also known as the better throwing quarterback, so the Texas secondary has to be ready for that.

Last week, Skipper completed more than 60 percent of his passes for 196 passing yards and two touchdowns. He would also add another touchdown on the ground. President didn’t take any reps last week due to Skipper taking hold of the starting role. Yet, we could see both quarterbacks taking a whack at things on Sep. 8.

Although Skipper looked better last week than he did last season, it was against an FCS defense and the Texas secondary has a whole other level of talent to bring to the table. Keenen Johnson and Justin Hobbs are his go-to targets in this game, which gives the cornerbacks for the Horns a clear set of receivers to focus on. We could see the Skipper that resembles more of the quarterback that tossed four interceptions and three touchdowns last season.
