1. What happened last year

The trend established from last season’s schedule for the Horns could be a big indication as to what’s to come this fall. Texas also faced Maryland to start off the 2017 campaign. In Week 2 of the 2017 season, Texas faced San Jose State as the only occasion in which it took on a non-Power Five opponent all year.

This season, Texas faced Maryland to start the year and also gets its only non-Power Five matchup of the season out of the way in Week 2. To add to that, Texas faced USC in Week 3 also. The non-conference slates are very close to identical so Herman has an idea of what could be ahead.

Texas took Tulsa to the woodshed last season with a whopping by a margin of victory of more than 50-points. Texas doesn’t need to completely dismantle Tulsa on the scoreboard. But it does need to iron out the many wrinkles that showed up unexpectedly last week in this first game at DKR.

We should be looking at a very similar result for the Horns as to what happened last year. San Jose State and Tulsa run very similar offensive systems and have, or had, big issues coming into the game. Tulsa shouldn’t have much of a chance and it would be good for Texas to lockdown on that in the first half.
