Interceptions

Few thought that it would be a pair of true freshmen that stepped up and took control of the secondary for the Horns immediately. It’s hard to say that true freshman safety Caden Sterns hasn’t been the best Texas defensive back thus far. He was huge for the Horns against both Maryland and Tulsa.

Sterns hauled in his first career interception against Tulsa, and it was one of the plays that was able to swing the game in Texas’ favor early on. He was almost beat on the route, but his leaping ability and rangy ball skills were put on full display as he extended to pick off Tulsa quarterback Luke Skipper early in the first quarter.

Later in the game, a fellow standout freshman safety for the Horns in B.J. Foster nabbed the second interception of the game for this team. Foster was the second true freshman that was able to get his first career interception against Tulsa. His interception came at an opportune time closer to halftime.

Sterns hasn’t posted the biggest numbers in the tackles for loss or sack departments this year, but that’s not his role with this team. If he can step in and fill the void left by DeShon Elliott at safety after he departed the Forty Acres one year early, it would be huge for this Texas secondary. Foster is also a huge addition that is making an immediate impact.
